Dave started square dancing in 1958 in the Kelso/Longview area of Washington. By 1976, they were dancing with the Crazy-8's to caller Stan White. Over the years, they danced with the Country Cut-Ups and the Checkerboard Squares in the Greater Portland area. They learned to round dance in 1977 from Nick & Mary Ann Nichols, then took intermediate round dance lessons from Dan & Doris Sobala in 1986. They have danced rounds exclusively since 1999. They moved to Arizona in 2002, where they dance with Kay & Joy Read, George & Pam Hurd and Wayne & Barbara Blackford. They danced a lot with Bob & Mary Ann Rother until they retired a few years ago.
